The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday revisited the regulatory conflict between the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board and universities in offering admission to candidates.
The lawmakers, in a motion moved by Umaru Kurfi, APC- Katsina, debated scrapping of the compulsory Post-UTME examination for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions.
Speaking on the motion, the Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan, APC-Yobe, said there was no need for post-UTME tests after the candidates have passed the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board.
“There is no need for this test. If we say we believe in JAMB, then, there is no cause for setting up a Post-UTME test. It amounts to stress and unnecessary financial requests.
“After JAMB, they go ahead to set up tests as if the one conducted by JAMB is not of standard. We must ensure that JAMB’s test is the only way to secure admission,” he noted.
In his submission, Shehu Sani, APC-Kaduna called for the intervention of the federal government in the contention between JAMB and tertiary institutions.
“Our concern is the fact that after JAMB is post-UTME. That becomes a series of hardships and sufferings on the way to university. The problem we are facing is peculiar to us. It is easier for a Nigerian to secure admission outside this country than it is here. Why should it be so?
“This is one opportunity through which this parliament can make a clear and categorical statement on the need for us to urge the Federal Government to intervene and do all that need to be done to make JAMB the only sensible, credible and efficient avenue for people to get admission into university. This is the best option for us,” he submitted.
The lawmakers resolved that the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND should meet with parties involved to map a way forward.

I also think post utme should be cancelled.This year’s jamb was very strict and students performed well so why the need to still conduct post jamb? This is the reason why elites send their children abroad to study because post jamb makes it difficult to gain admission

I also agreed that post utme should be cancelled too, its so stressful financially, some people even died in a moto accident on their way to their school of choice to write post utme, so pleasw federal government should please ban it

Indeed federal government should put a stop to post utme in the sense that someone that got a very high score in jamb and couldn’t do well in the post utme due to one reason or the other will be denied of getting admission that year. That’s why most people travel out to study abroad and at the end of the day, they say Nigeria isn’t moving forward and those who can’t afford it start wandering the streets and this render some people useless….. In my school, we were given scrabbled subjects. Come to think of it when an art student is being given science subjects to attempt in post utme and this made many people fail …..Please cancel this year post utme.

Am of the opinion that it should be canceled . my daughter passed her jamb but during the put me exams she was delayed after she had logged in to start writing her exams the invigilators said that the picture in her slip was not her and by the time she cleared herself to start the exam 30 minutes had already gone and she was able to and only English and biology .
Many have complained of inconveniences of this such. It is Infact one of the reasons for wanting to put off post UTME exams.

The post-Utme exercise is meant to worsened the situation of a student seeking admission into an higher institution. Come to think of it the post-utme fee, ur transportation fee to ur preferred school,ur accommodation fee, food and many more fees, with all this u still end up not being admitted! What a sh*t country!!. I support post-utme should come to an end! Now!

Please federal government should come to our aid, as students, we’re really suffering. After getting the required jamb marks, there comes aptitude test. This is very much unlike other countries and yet students still go to school and graduate with higher grades
